A cabana is a small semi-enclosed beach shelter — usually three solid sides with an open front facing the sea — that provides both shade and a degree of privacy exceeding that of a parasol or baldahin canopy. On the Montenegrin coast cabanas are found primarily at five-star resorts and upscale beach clubs in areas like Tivat, Budva Old Town, and Luštica Bay. They are typically furnished with a built-in daybed or two sun loungers, a mini-fridge or ice bucket, and occasionally a safe for valuables. The term is borrowed from the Spanish/Portuguese Caribbean tradition and arrived on the Adriatic through the influence of international hotel chains. Because cabanas enclose a larger footprint than a baldahin, they are charged at a premium — often the highest individual unit price on the beach. Some resort properties include a daily cabana in their room packages for guests in suite categories, while beach-club operators sell them on a first-come, first-served or pre-booked basis.
