FAQ

Can I bring my dog to the beach in Montenegro? Are there dog-friendly beaches?

Dogs are generally not permitted on organised, busy beaches in Montenegro during peak season (July–August), when local bylaws and beach operators restrict animals to keep conditions hygienic for swimmers. This applies to most of the named beaches around Budva, Becici, and the main resort areas.

Outside peak season — particularly June and September — enforcement is much more relaxed, and you will often see dogs on quieter stretches of beach. Some wilder or less commercialised coves, particularly in the Lustica area and around Herceg Novi, are informally dog-friendly throughout the summer. Ada Bojana (a naturist sand island near Ulcinj) and Buljarica near Petrovac are also generally tolerant of dogs outside the busiest weeks.

Practical tip: bring water for your dog, as the pebble and sand surfaces heat up significantly in the midday sun, and shade for animals is rarely provided at beach facilities.
